PS3 blinking red light fix

Sending PS3 to Sony Customer Care center probably is the best option though it can be very expensive. Usually, unless you get the YLOD (Yellow Light of Death) some of the red light blinking problems can be fixed by on your own.

Blinking red light is usually caused by overheating of the PS3 gaming console. Overheating can happen when the PS3 is sitting on a non-ventilated place, sitting on the carpet or mattress or even in a closed entertainment center. So the first step to solve the problem is keeping the unit outside to let it cool for a couple of hours and restart again.

If ventilation is not the issue it can be due to dust accumulated inside the PS3 that in turn causes overheating. So the next step is to vacuum your PS3 using a car vacuum cleaner. To do this, turn it front-side-back and start vacuuming the vents at the rear. After that you may vacuum the vents on the sides (way down near the bottom) and front. In fact, if you keep doing this once a month of so you may avoid the red blinking light problem to some extent.

The third step is the PS3 self cleaning process. In fact, this is a fan test feature that PS3 models have provided. To do this, turn off your PS3, remove all the cords from its rear and keep the console on a spread sheet of newspaper. Now, while pressing the eject button, plugin the power cord of the PS3 (while still pressing the eject button). After a few seconds the fan blowing and cleaning process starts. Let it run for about 15 seconds while you can see all the dust coming out of the rear vents of your PS3 spreading into the newspaper sheet. Switch off the PS3 power and clean up any outer dust. You are good to go!

If you follow the steps above your red blinking light problem typically get solved by itself. If you still do not have any luck, you may consider buying this beautiful DIY guide to fix all types of PS3 lights problems before taking the console to the Sony Service center.
